“Moses” for Lithuania

The Lithuanian epilepsy consulting centre in Kaunas carries out patient training courses in co-operation with the epilepsy centre in Kleinwachau/Dresden. The Hörmann Group has been involved in the work of the consulting centre since 2014.

  • The “Hormann Baltic” regional sales office has donated a colour copier to the centre, which allows Dr Sediene to easily and cost-effectively provide information material to her clients – epilepsy patients and their relatives. The first batch of information sheets about epilepsy and driver’s licenses, epilepsy and disabilities, epilepsy and insurance are being prepared.
  • The translation of a manual for patient training is being prepared for printing. It has been successfully used as a Moses training booklet in Germany for many years. See www.moses-schulung.de/erarbeitungsbuch/
  • Hörmann has promised the consulting centre additional financial aid for an epilepsy information programme developed in co-operation with the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Security and Labour.

The epilepsy centre in Radeberg/Saxony and the Lithuanian epilepsy consulting centre have been closely collaborating for many years.

The connection to Caritas, which is highly trusted in Lithuania, is essential for nationwide information and consulting. Social work in Lithuania is traditionally performed on an honorary basis. A currently planned joint integration project with the Lithuanian Ministry of Health is an important step towards official recognition of the epilepsy consulting centre.

The establishment of the centre, which took place in a relatively short period of time, would not have been possible without the backing of German institutions (Radeberg epilepsy centre, the “Aktion Mensch” social organisation) and the financial support of private sponsors.

The Caritas in Kaunas and the office of the epilepsy consulting centre are located in the picturesque city centre of Kaunas.

Kaunas, February 2015

Dear Hörmann family,

I would like to thank you very much for your support of the epilepsy consulting centre in Kaunas (Lithuania). With your help we will be able to accomplish some of the goals of our epilepsy consulting centre, the first and to-date only such institution in the Baltic states, established on 1 April 2013.

……………..

I will use the printer donated by Hörmann to the epilepsy consulting centre in Kaunas for the dissemination of information by creating and distributing flyers.

…………..

One of the tasks of the epilepsy consulting centre is the training of patients. Together with the supervisor of the epilepsy consulting centre, Ms Maria Lippold (Kleinwachau epilepsy centre, Dresden), I have carried out the first MOSES training course at the Zirmunu vocational rehabilitation centre in Vilnius. A total of 8 epilepsy patients and 3 staff members took part in the training.

To accomplish the aims of the “Moses training courses” we need the Moses training books to allow the participants to read up on what they have learned... For this purpose, we need to translate the training books from German to Lithuanian and print them.

Famoses training courses for the parents of children with epilepsy are planned. They will be offered in collaboration with the neuro-pediaetric department of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.

……………

I appreciate and thank you for your understanding of the situation of the consulting centre in Kaunas and your decision to assume the translation and printing costs of the Lithuanian Moses and Famoses books.

Sincerely,

Dr Polina Sediene
Director of the epilepsy consulting centre in Kaunas (Lithuania).
